Ocean Wave Energy Technologies

installed in the near shore, offshore, and far offshore locations

generally, a structure called a barrage gather the energy generated by the waves

TERMINATOR DEVICES

  • lays perpendicular to the direction of the wave capture power of wave, onshore and/or near shore

  • Water enters through subsurface that opens a chamber and traps the air above

  • Wave action: the captured air then moves up and down and forces an opening connected to a turbine to generate power

ATTENUATORS

  • Floating structures with different segments, parallel to waves and ride it like a ship

  • connected to hydraulic pumps or other converters to generate power as the waves move across

  • power goes down a cable to a junction box in the seabed and it connects it to other machines via a common subsea cable to shore

POINT ABSORBER

  •  floating structure with components that move relative to each other

  • use the rise and fall of the wave height at a single point for energy conversion

  • the up and down bobbing motion caused by passing waves is used to drive electromechanical or hydraulic energy converters to generate power

Wave Dragon Overtopping Device

OVERTOPPING DEVICE

  • Have reservoirs that are filled by incoming waves, that create a slight buildup of water pressure like a dam

  • water is then released and gravity causes it to go back into the ocean

  • the energy of the returning water is used to turn hydro turbines to generate power
